New-vehicle sales drop by 4.1% in September, exports down 12.6%
Total new-vehicle sales in September dropped by 4.1%, to 46 021 units, compared with the same month last year, reports naamsa | The Automotive Business Council.
The new-passenger-car market reached 29 669 units last month – a decline of 8.4%, compared with September last year.
The car rental industry accounted for 18.9% of new-passenger-car sales in September.
Sales of new bakkies, vans and minibus taxis – light commercial vehicles – were up 4.6% in September, to 13 169 units.
Medium-truck sales declined by 5.1%, reaching 915 units, while heavy-truck and bus sales expanded by 10.5%, to 2 356 units, notes naamsa.
Last month’s new-vehicle export sales, at 36 247 units, dropped by 12.6%, compared with the same month last year.
Vehicle exports for the year to end-September were 8.3% ahead of the same period last year, at a total of 285 200 units.
New-vehicle sales for the year to date were up 2.5%, to 401 315 units.
