Amanda Weir, who was chief transformational officer and senior VP of Canadian operations for Newcrest until the company was bought by Newmont last year, has joined the leadership team of dual-listed Perseus Mining.

She will join Perseus in the role of COO from Monday.

Weir worked on the integration of Newcrest’s operations into Newmont, before assuming the role of interim group head mineral resource management with Newmont.

Prior to her role with Newcrest, she worked with Evolution Mining as general manager transformation and effectiveness and spent over nine years with BHP in various strategy, innovation and technical roles.

Welcoming Weir to the Perseus team, chairperson and CEO Jeff Quartermaine said that while the company was going through a significant phase of growth, it was maintaining its focus on the performance of its operations.

“Amanda brings a wealth of operational and technical expertise and deep knowledge of leading teams through strategic transformation in complex environments. We look forward to Amanda applying her significant skills and experience to help guide our operations through the next phase of growth.”

The Australian mining company operates three gold mines in Africa: Edikan in Ghana, and Sissingué and Yaouré in Côte d’Ivoire. Perseus also owns the Nyanzaga gold project in Tanzania and the Meyas Sand gold project in Sudan.
