Latest Developments
PEJ has officially notified the European Commission regarding its investment project for the first NPP in Poland.
This notification fulfills the obligations stipulated in the Euratom Treaty.
The notification of the investment project by the investor under the Euratom Treaty is distinct from the State aid notification procedure. The Euratom Treaty notification is a legal requirement for nuclear projects within EU member States. Its purpose is to enable the European Commission to assess the project's compliance with the objectives of the Euratom Treaty, particularly regarding safety, technical, and economic aspects.
The submission includes a detailed description of the project, which aims to build a modern, safe, and low-emission NPP in the Pomerania region. Concurrently, a separate notification process is under way concerning State aid for the project, initiated by the Polish government.
The outcome of this notification process will be an opinion from the European Commission on the project for Poland's first NPP. This opinion is crucial for obtaining the construction permit, which is issued by the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency.
Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
Westinghouse and Bechtel consortium (NPP construction).
