ONGOING FALLOUT

20th August 2021

Font size: - +

As South Africa continues to count the cost of deadly looting that destroyed lives, livelihoods, as well as public and commercial infrastructure, the world paused earlier this month to reflect on the ongoing fallout from the deadly Beirut port blast. The explosion, caused by unsafely stored ammonium nitrate, ripped through the Lebanese city on August 4, 2020. The country’s political and economic problems continue to loom as large as the carcasses of the grain silos a woman is pictured here walking past a year after that devastating event.
