Premier sees SAB’s R825m Prospecton investment as a vote of confidence in KZN
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has described South African Breweries’ (SAB’s) R825-million investment in its Prospecton brewery as an “overwhelming vote of confidence in the future of the province”.
SAB hosted the Premier and KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism Siboniso Duma at the brewery, in Durban, on November 28.
SAB CEO Richard Rivett-Carnac said that, following the July 2021 unrest and the April 2022 floods, SAB believes the brewery can play an “enormous” role in the province’s economy.
SAB had pledged the R825-million investment in the brewery during the March 2022 South African Investment Conference.
The investment includes the addition of a new flavoured alcohol beverage blending plant, which will employ a further 56 people.
SAB employs about 572 workers in KwaZulu-Natal, but its operations support more than 17 000 jobs in the province.
Dube-Ncube said the investment should also benefit local businesses in the province, as SAB is set to procure goods and services from these businesses.
