N4 concessionaire Trans African Concessions (TRAC) has warned travellers ahead of the festive season that several major upgrade and rehabilitation projects are still ongoing on the toll route between Gauteng and Mozambique.

“These initiatives form part of TRAC’s ongoing commitment to keeping the corridor safe, efficient and well-maintained,” says the company.

The Solomon Mahlangu Drive to Bronkhorspruit rehabilitation project started in October, and is expected to wrap up in September 2027.

The project is 6% complete. The main contractor is TauPele Construction.

Work on the Van Dijksdrift Interchange to Wonderfontein rehabilitation project is 8% complete, and is scheduled to end in March 2027.

The main contractor is Actophambili Construction.

The upgrading and rehabilitation of the stretch of road over Schoemanskloof is 29% complete, and is expected to wrap up in October 2027.

TauPele Construction is again the main contractor on this job.

The Crocodile Gorge Section 10 upgrade project is 23% complete, with the expected sign-off date February 2028.

Raubex Construction is the main contractor.

Rehabilitation of the road from Hectorspruit to the Lebombo Border Post is 15% complete, and is scheduled to end in May 2027.

The main Contractor is Roadspan/WBHO joint venture.

Work on the Ressano Garcia Border Post to Moamba Interchange involves the rehabilitation of the road, as well as the construction of a new passing lane.

The expected completion date is December 2027, and work is 20% complete.

WBHO Projects Mozambique is the main contractor.

TRAC warns that construction will be halted for the construction industry holiday from December 12 this year to January 7, 2026.

“Despite no actual construction taking place during this period, road users are reminded that all sites are still deemed active and traffic-control measures will still be in place, in line with road safety measures.”
