Project Description
RWE Power operates the Garzweiler and Hambach opencast mines in the Rhenish lignite mining area. From 2030, water from the Rhine will have to be brought in to fill the opencast pits and to provide ecowater for the wetlands.

The project involves the construction of a three-strand, 45-km-long underground pressure pipeline to transport water from the Rhine river to the mines.
