The Rooiwal Waste Water Works has not been well-maintained for many years and has insufficient capacity to deal with the volume of wastewater entering its works.
The project will be undertaken in two subphases.
Phase 1A of the refurbishment is urgent, and a turnkey approach is being undertaken to ensure that the necessary works are conducted swiftly and efficiently. This includes general building, and mechanical and electrical elements, which will operate to deliver the upgrades needed to improve the plant's capacity and functionality.
Phase 1B will follow a conventional approach, which will attend to the construction of two primary sedimentation tanks, the refurbishment of the East flow balancing tank and pumpstation, and the upgrading of the anaerobic digesters on the Rooiwal West Works.
