Schneider Electric, a global energy technology leader, joined millions around the world in celebrating GivingTuesday, marking the occasion with an engaging virtual event that highlighted the power of volunteerism and impact employees are making across English-speaking Africa.

With the theme “Everyone Can Make a Change,” the event united Schneider Electric volunteers, beneficiaries, and leaders from Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, showcasing the organisation’s commitment to community upliftment through its programme, VolunteerIn, which has delivered over 84,000 volunteer days since 2012.

Also launched in 2012,  GivingTuesday inspires generosity worldwide by mobilising individuals and organisations to support their communities. Schneider Electric joined the movement in 2018 as part of its sustainability and social impact agenda.

“As a cluster, we are part of Schneider Electric’s global network of 31,000 volunteers. Between 2022 and 2025, employees in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria contributed nearly 900 volunteering days across initiatives such as education and mentorship, each hour reflecting care, commitment, and solidarity with our communities,” said Elihle Obi, Marketing Communications & Corporate Citizenship Director, English-speaking Africa at Schneider Electric.

The GivingTuesday event also hosted live panel which featured volunteers and community partners from English-speaking Africa.

Terri Nhtanga from the Teresa Foundation in Kenya highlighted why they partnered with Schneider Electric on the “Conserve My Planet” programme. “Communities living on less than $2 a day are disproportionately affected by climate change.

“Schneider Electric volunteers bring technical expertise and mentorship that equips youth with practical skills and environmental awareness. Together, we’re empowering young people to change their own economic and climate realities.”

From South Africa, Estelle Mengel of the Emthonjeni Community Centre reflected on over a decade of collaboration. “The confidence your volunteers give young people is life changing. “Whether working in our vegetable gardens or supporting seniors with solar lanterns, Schneider Electric leaves a legacy of dignity and empowerment.”

Closing the event, Christophe Begat, Vice President, Industry and Segment, English-speaking Africa at Schneider Electric, extended his appreciation. “Volunteering is a powerful reminder of our responsibility to give back.  “Your actions bring our purpose to life in a tangible and human way. Schneider Electric’s greatest strength is our people, and today, you have made us proud.”
