The Seriti Power Community Trust has invested R19-million in early childhood development (ECD) infrastructure across Mpumalanga and the Free State.

Currently, 543 learners are enrolled and supported by 31 trained ECD practitioners. Combined, the facilities can accommodate up to 750 children, providing early cognitive stimulation and structured learning environments that aim to improve school readiness, reduce dropout risk and foster holistic development in literacy, numeracy and socio-emotional skills.

Seven centres have been built, furnished and equipped.

Facilities include classrooms, office and administration blocks and outdoor areas.

Guided by the National Integrated ECD Policy and the Children’s Act, the initiative aims to create safe, well-resourced facilities that provide young learners with the strongest possible foundation for success, the trust points out in a statement.

It adds that the project supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education and the National Development Plan 2030 objectives for rural development, inclusive education and lifelong learning.

This initiative also empowers communities through local employment, caregiver training and the creation of safe spaces for vulnerable children, the trust points out.

“At Seriti, we believe meaningful transformation starts at the earliest stages of life. This investment in ECD is not only about bricks and mortar; it is about providing the next generation with an environment where they can learn, grow and thrive.

“We are proud to work with communities, educators and government to create a better future for our children,” says Seriti Resources CEO Mike Teke
