The highly anticipated Smarter Mobility Africa Summit 2024 on the 3rd of October has kicked off with an exciting lineup of thought leaders, alongside engaging networking events like the Coffee Mixer, designed to spark dialogue and collaboration across mobility sectors. This year’s theme, "The Truth Behind the Title," sets the tone for critical discussions around transparency, leadership, and innovation in African transport.
A key highlight from last year’s summit came from Captain Annabel Vundla, a pioneering figure in the aviation sector. Reflecting on her participation, Captain Vundla remarked, “It’s important for me to be here because, as much as this is a mobility conference, aviation's also involved. It's important for other women in mobility sectors to be exposed to different sectors of aviation, and try to incorporate that into more of these conferences. I think this is the first time somebody from the aviation sector has come to a mobility conference.” Her powerful statement still resonates today as the Smarter Mobility Africa summit continues to expand its reach, bringing together diverse industries to shape the future of African mobility.
This year, inDrive’s Aurora Tech Award, a key sponsor of the event, is championing the summit's mission to promote sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions for women across Africa's mobility sector. The Aurora Tech Award by inDrive celebrates and empowers women founders of tech startups who are leading innovation and breaking barriers. With the 2025 award entries now open, this sponsorship reinforces inDrive’s commitment to fostering collaboration and transforming mobility systems across the continent.
Mary-Anne Momoh-Ige, Government Relations Specialist for inDrive in Africa, stated: “At inDrive, we believe that the future of mobility must be equitable, inclusive, and driven by diverse perspectives. Through our Aurora Tech Award, we aim to spotlight and support women founders who are pioneering solutions to the most pressing challenges in mobility and beyond. It’s particularly inspiring that many of our previous winners and finalists hail from Africa, showcasing the region’s immense potential in driving innovation. We are proud to sponsor this summit as part of our continued mission to empower women innovators and create lasting, sustainable change across Africa’s mobility landscape.”
This year’s event will showcase a wide array of notable speakers, including:
- MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, Member of the Executive Committee: Roads & Transport, Gauteng Department of Roads & Transport
- Mary-Anne Momoh-Ige, Government Relations Specialist, inDrive Africa
- Nono Cele, SuperSport TV Director
- Dr. Omowunmi Mary Longe, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg
- Johanna Shikukutu, Head: Bus Operations, City of Windhoek
- Nathalia Korupanda, Logistics Hub; Project Officer, Walvis Corridor Group
These influential speakers bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise from various sectors, ensuring this year’s summit will cover the full spectrum of mobility—from public transport to smart logistics, and from road to rail and beyond. The Smarter Mobility Africa summit continues to be the go-to platform for exploring sustainable solutions and innovations in African transport, with a special focus on inclusivity and cross-industry collaboration. Attendees are invited to join the discussions, engage in networking, and drive impactful change through sessions and mixers, such as the popular Coffee Mixer event.
