Project Description
The microgrid, the biggest in Gold Fields’ portfolio, will comprise 42 MW of wind power and 35 MW of solar power, and will provide 73% of the St Ives mine’s energy requirements.
The project will reduce the mine’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions by an estimated 50% in 2030 against the mine’s 2016 baseline.

Latest Developments
The project is progressing on time and within budget.
Gold Fields reported on July 16 that the foundations for seven wind turbines had been poured.
Every turbine foundation contains 800 m3 of concrete, supplied and poured by local contractor Westforce. Wind turbine components are expected to arrive at the site by September 2025.
Construction of the associated solar farm is also advancing, with more than half of the panel frames completed and the first of 66 000 solar panels delivered. Installation is set to start this month. The solar component is being developed in partnership with Pacific Energy.
