Name of the Project
Tomato-Atsuma power station CO2 capture plant.
Location
Tomakomai area of Hokkaido, in Japan.
Project Owner/s
Electric company Hokkaido Electric Power Co (Hepco).
Project Description
When completed, the facility is expected to be the largest CO2 capture plant in Japan.
The project entails the basic design of a CO2 capture plant (front-end engineering design, or FEED) for Hokkaido’s Tomato-Atsuma power station.
The plant will have the capacity to capture 5 200 t/d CO2 from the flue gases emitted during combustion of the boilers in the power station.
The project aims to store 1.5-million to two-million tons of CO2 a year by 2030 in deep saline formations near Tomakomai, using CO2 captured at Hepco’s Tomato-Atsuma power station.
