Selina Lange, Dr Miranda Moloto, Dr Jessica Hutchings, Keneilwe Gwabeni, Lebogang Mathenje, and Dr Tryphine Zulu exemplify resilience, innovation and empowerment across actuarial, rehabilitation, prevention, technology, financial services and healthcare.
Dr Miranda Moloto - Head of Rehabilitation
Having established the department to address the evolving needs of social insurance and worker compensation, Moloto is the pioneering Head of Rehabilitation at RMA. Born in Johannesburg, she holds an MBChB from MEDUNSA and a Master’s degree in Public Health. Moloto is a collaborative, results-orientated leader who thrives on solving complex health system challenges, with a particular focus on HIV innovation. Outside of healthcare, she co-founded a highly successful property investment podcast, illustrating her diverse talents and entrepreneurial spirit. Guided by the Zulu ethos Bazi abantu (respect people), Moloto encourages women leaders to embrace self-awareness, have the courage to try new approaches, and be willing to change course when necessary. She also stresses the importance of creating space for others to grow and succeed. Inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Moloto exemplifies leadership grounded in empathy, resilience and visionary thinking.
Selina Lange - Actuarial Manager, RMA Valuations
As Actuarial Manager, Lange oversees the valuations of the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases and VAPs portfolios, proactively managing risks and tracking performance. With a BSc in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics, and an Honours in Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science and a Management Practice certificate, Lange is a goal-orientated leader who empowers her team through trust and flexibility, fostering creative problem-solving. She takes pride in balancing her career and family life; a testament to her belief in “Work hard, play hard.” Lange urges women leaders to support each other visibly and values mentorship as a catalyst for progress.
Dr Jessica Hutchings - Head of Prevention
As the leader of RMA’s Prevention Programme, Hutchings focuses on reducing incidents and occupational diseases to foster safe and healthy workplaces for members and stakeholders. Born on March 9, 1983, she holds four degrees, including a PhD. Her management style centres around empowerment, enrichment and mutual learning within her team. Hutchings cites her greatest achievements as becoming a mother and earning her PhD, both milestones she cherishes deeply. She admires Mother Teresa and aspires to embody a life philosophy of continuously helping others and learning. To women leaders in South Africa, Hutchings offers candid advice: stand your ground confidently and never be silent.
Lebogang Mathenje - GM: Financial Services
As GM of Financial Services, Mathenje leads partnerships and innovation to expand inclusive access within Rand Mutual Life’s financial ecosystem. An MPhil in Corporate Strategy underpins her collaborative leadership and people-first philosophy, driving personal growth and open communication. Her achievements include launching an entry-market bank proposition central to financial empowerment. Mathenje draws inspiration from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her grandmother, striving always to uplift others and encouraging women to lead without waiting for permission, embrace all facets of themselves, and build empowering networks.
Keneilwe Gwabeni - Group Chief Information Officer
As RMA’s Group CIO, Gwabeni leads the digital transformation agenda, shaping the organisation’s technology vision and driving enterprise-wide innovation for sustainable growth. Born in Mahikeng, she holds a National Diploma and BTech in IT from Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and a BCom Honours in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town. Gwabeni is globally recognised for her leadership in digital technology, accelerating transformation within complex organisations. Her management style balances democratic collaboration with decisive action when needed, fostering inclusive teams empowered to innovate. Committed to mentorship and persistence, she believes “small, consistent achievements build a world-changing legacy.” Gwabeni actively challenges gender stereotypes by encouraging women to prove that opportunity and excellence transcend barriers, inspiring leaders in South Africa and beyond to lead boldly and innovate fearlessly.
Dr Tryphine Zulu - Head of Healthcare Operations
As the leader of healthcare operations a RMA, Zulu positions the company as a premier specialist occupational healthcare administrator and drives the healthcare infrastructure strategy. Zulu holds a PhD in Health Economics, an MSc in Actuarial Science and Data Analytics, an MPH in Health Economics, an MSc in Pharmacotherapy, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy Honours. Her management style focuses on empowering her team through clear expectations, support and mentorship, while maintaining strong accountability. She views leadership as a two-way learning process, excelling in problem-solving and resilience. Zulu draws inspiration from transformative African leaders like Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, where progress matters more than perfection, and every mistake is a valuable lesson on the journey to better leadership.
These RMA women demonstrate the importance of visibility, mentorship and an inclusive culture that fosters growth. “She Defines” celebrates their impact and calls on women everywhere to lead boldly, support one another, and create lasting change. For more information visit www.randmutual.co.za
