Barloworld Automotive & Logistics’ Tshifhiwa Ramuthaga is amongst the first six CIOs in South Africa to be certified by IITPSA.

The Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) awarded professional chief information officers (CIO) with a post-nominal designator “Pr.CIO” IITPSA Professional Member grade. This is the highest grade awarded to South African ICT professionals who meet the required levels of academic accomplishment and professional experience at a top level seven competency. This is a first for South Africa and it is the first towards professionalising the IT industry.

Ramuthaga is the first of six CIOs to be awarded the new designation who received their accreditation at a launch event in Sandton this week alongside, Renier van der Merwe of Premier Foods, Martin Coetsee of DRA Global, Yolisa Skwintshi of Absa Insurance, Visionary CIO finalist, Louise van der Bank of AfriSam and Amanda Maritz of Essilor.

An elated Ramuthaga attributes her success to her rich upbringing and commitment to academia. She also notes the support she continues to receive from Barloworld Automotive & Logistics CEO, Kamogelo Mmutlana who enables women empowerment through a conscious effort to facilitate the growth of women at work. “He provides leadership and drives diversity through understanding that both men and women are different and harnesses the strength that lies in those differences,” she notes.

Barloworld Automotive & Logistics prides itself in offering an enabling environment that inspires progress in its fierce women-force. “We place great emphasis on people who are empowered to improve their work, performance and careers. We encourage our employees to commit to continuous improvement, not only for the business but also for their own progress. We are inspired by Tshifhiwa’s success as she continues to Defy Limits,” says Kamogelo Mmutlana, Chief Executive Officer: Barloworld Automotive & Logistics.

Ramuthaga highlights that this designation is of greater importance to organisations when recruiting IT professionals.  An individual with this designation demonstrates the highest level of competence, a successful track record, adheres to the highest ethical standards, and has proven on-the-job experience and a commitment to life-long professional education.

She is a firm believer in being an inspirational leader who challenges people to become the best version of themselves. “As I mature in leadership, I have grown to embrace sharing knowledge. I have learnt that I am more of a coach and less of a player - allowing people to play at their best and I own their success or failures with them,” she concludes.
