TurboDirect SA

10th December 2021

Font size: - +

Name of company and activity – TurboDirect SA is the largest original equipment (OEM) manufacturer and turbocharger importer, distributor and repairer in South Africa, holding genuine brand turbocharger distribution agencies directly with the international manufacturers.

  • Most memorable moment of 2021 / Biggest highlight of 2021 – The upgrade to a brand new, bespoke manufacturing plant in the Denel Kempton Campus, which facilitated the manufacturing and release, as well as 24-hour endurance test of the first locally designed and manufactured high performance turbocharger in South Africa’s history, conducted at Red Star raceway in October 2021.

  • Most forgettable aspect of 2021 / Biggest disappointment of 2021 – The sad and unforgettable negative effects of the Covid pandemic on the South African industry, economy and people’s lives.

  • Hopes for South Africa in 2022 – Hope that the industries affected negatively by Covid are restored, stabilised and move forward with growth and prosperity.

  • Plans for making 2022 memorable – TurboDirect SA have set up the largest and only local manufacturing plant for ball bearing turbochargers and mining turbochargers in South Africa. TurboDirect SA is destined to manufacture the first 2500 units for the first half of 2022 based on existing interest. Growth is forecast to triple in the following six months with international channel interests.  We envisage extensive, additional designs in the manufacturing portfolio moving forward.

The creation and launch of the Turbocharger Remanufacturing Organisation (TRO) and its members, which will bring with it accredited, trained professional partners and equipment, setting a new standard in the turbocharger repair industry. This will combat the use of non-OEM parts used in most mining repairs in South Africa today. Seven members are part of the organisation and have received training and accreditation. Marketing efforts are in place to create the awareness of the organisation in 2022.
