A mobile power generation solution housing two generators side-by-side in a standard 20-foot container is designed to provide flexible prime and critical standby power.

The QAC1100 TwinPower solution from Atlas Copco delivers up to 1 MW of predictable power on a single platform.

“We are in effect doubling the power and flexibility for our customers,” explains Atlas Copco Power Technique business line manager: portable products David Stanford. “Moreover, the QAC1100 TwinPower adds even more value from a productivity and uptime perspective as the unit also serves as a back-up solution; one generator can essentially run at 50% while the other is being serviced, providing operators with seamless 24/7 power supply.”

The smart configuration and fast-paralleling system enables the two generators to work independently or in parallel with each other (one unit working at 50 Hz and the other at 60 Hz), providing a combination of solutions between prime and standby use. Customers are able to choose the power solution best suited for those applications with changeable power and current usage requirements.

According to Stanford, the load acceptance ability of the generators is as a result of the engine/alternator performance which, in association with its respective advanced control systems, is able to accept a 100% load step with more than 70% load step acceptance within the ISO 8528-G3 class respectively.

The modular solution is designed to provide reliable power for most applications that have variable load requirements across a range of industries including utilities, construction, mining, quarrying, oil and gas, and the rental sector. Featuring a compact footprint and low noise levels of 70 dB at 7 m, the containerised generators can be placed in a workspace close to where power is needed, helping to improve productivity and safety.

The QAC generators are designed to be fuel-efficient and can save up to 10% fuel at maximum performance, helping to minimise carbon footprints. The ISO-certified container which houses the two QAC generators can be easily transported to job sites to provide power with minimum delay.

The unit is said to require less than two hours of service after 500 hours of operation. The two generators’ engines and alternators are positioned on opposite sides of the platform, to provide fast, easy access to major components. Large access panels, standard heavy-duty dual-stage fuel and air filtration, and custom service tools also facilitate maintenance and contribute to longer up-time and extended service intervals.

The generator and robust housing are designed to perform in extreme temperatures and at high altitudes, and Atlas Copco asserts that the QAC’s smart electric variable speed drive motor-driven engine/alternator cooling system guarantees 100% power at 40 °C at an altitude of 1 000 m.
