Trade union Uasa has concluded another successful wage agreement, this time with chrome miner Samancor.

The union signed a three-year wage agreement on behalf of its members and all workers employed by the company, which is valid from July 1 this year to June 30, 2027.

The agreement provides for differentiation between levels, with some levels receiving a fixed increase and others a percentage-of-salary increase.

In this regard, level A4 to B3 workers will receive an increase of 6% each year for the duration of the agreement, while level B4 to CU workers will receive increases of 6% this year, and another 6% or consumer price inflation-related increase in 2025 and 2026.

The company’s contributions to medical aid, housing and transport allowance will also increase every year of the agreement.

Uasa reiterates the effectiveness of collective bargaining to support the economic positions of workers.

“We hope other employers will follow suit and negotiate justifiable increases for their employees,” the union states.

Uasa represents about 620 000 members across various industries in South Africa.
