US steel alloy liners to be supplied throught Africa

1st June 2007

Supplier of rubber for the min- ing and industrial markets Multotec Rubber recently concluded an agreement with supplier of consumable wear parts for the mineral processing industry worldwide ME Elecmetal, to supply this US company’s high-quality steel alloy liners throughout Africa.

This is particularly relevant with the trend towards large-diameter mills and high-speed mills, where steel linings are often more applicable than rubber.

“This is quite a prestigious alliance for Multotec, adding significantly to its product range and affiliated expertise,” says Multotec Rubber MD Mike Griffin.

ME Elecmetal says that its pro-ducts, design experience, range of alloys, manufacturing and quality-control expertise, short lead times and customer service will provide Multotec with substantial growth opportunities in the metal-lining arena.

Griffin says the range will complement the company’s existing line of rubber mill liner, steel and rubber composite mill liner, ceramic and urethane products.

“ME Elecmetal was searching for a well-known company in South Africa already conducting business in the region, and with a reputation for high standards, quality, delivery and customer service. I believe that Multotec fits this bill very well,” says Griffin.

The agreement was signed in December 2006. It covers mill liners for autogenous, semiauto- genous ball and rod mills, concaves for primary gyratory crushers, and track pads for electric shovels and hydraulic excavators.

Back-up service will be provided from either the US or from ME Elecmetal’s UK agent. The products will find application in the gold-, platinum- and coal-mining sectors in South Africa, as well as the rest of Africa.

ME Elecmetal is a global supplier of mill liners and other mining- and crushing-related wear parts. It differentiates itself from its competitors in many ways, from a computer-controlled melting practice to the use of computer modelling to ensure soundness of all new com- ponents, to vacuum moulding for dimensional control and consistency and 100 % inspection to ensure dimensional accuracy and correct hardness values.
