In April, electric engineering, power and automation developer WEG announced that its first vertical motor MGL900-5800KW 12P medium-voltage successfully rolled off the production line, marking significant progress in a collaborative project.

The vertical motor was developed in cooperation with pump and water treatment technologies manufacturer Hitachi Pump Manufacturing, which is a long-standing WEG client.

This motor will be shipped to the Middle East and installed in a sewage system pumpstation in a 100-m-deep underground tunnel, playing a crucial role in sewage treatment.

Designed to drive vertical volute pumps, the new motors will replace a competitor’s units, which were damaged during a recent flood.

The project required full interchangeability with the original mechanical and electrical specifications, as well as an extremely short delivery time, owing to the urgency of resuming operations.

The order was placed at WEG Nantong factory on January 17, and the delivery took place in April, showcasing WEG’s ability to complete the design, manufacture and delivery of large, custom-made vertical motors in just three months.

The company says that, in addition to meeting demanding technical requirements, this delivery further strengthens the customer’s trust in WEG’s ability to provide tailored solutions with fast turnarounds.

For the end-user, the solution ensures continuity of operations with minimal downtime, maintaining efficiency in wastewater treatment processes.

The success of this project is “another example of WEG providing excellent, innovative, and flexible support to its global strategic partners”, WEG stated.

It concluded that, with its ability to collaborate closely and efficiently complete the delivery of non-standard orders, WEG will continue to provide high-quality and efficient services to its customers.
