Location
Tamatave, in the north-east of Madagascar.

Project Owner/s
Project company Compagnie Générale d’Hydroelectricite de Volobe Clean (CGHV), comprising energy producer EDF (37.5%), pan-African group AXIAN (37.5%) and investment company Africa50 (25%).

Project Description
The project proposes the development, construction and operation of a 120 MW hydroelectric dam. 

The project will produce about 750 GWh/y of electricity – equivalent to about one-third of Madagascar’s current electricity production. This new energy source will help decarbonise and secure Madagascar’s power supply.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 3 000 jobs during construction and 200 permanent positions during operation.

Capital Expenditure
The project has funding from international donors and a guarantee from the World Bank.

Planned Start/End Date
The dam’s commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2030.
