2024 Car of the Year finalists announced

The South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) has announced the 18 finalists of the Old Mutual Insure 2024 Car of the Year (COTY) competition.

“We eagerly await the upcoming competition phase, where the contenders will undergo comprehensive testing by COTY’s expert juror group in early March,” says Old Mutual Insure MD Garth Napier

“This rigorous and diverse evaluation will culminate in announcing the competition winners at a gala dinner in May.”

The finalists are:

Suzuki Fronx
Citroen C3

Compact Family category
Omoda C5
Suzuki Grand Vitara
Toyota Urban Cruiser

Family category
BMW X1
GWM Ora 03

Premium category
Mercedes-Benz GLC
Lexus NX

Luxury category
BMW 7 Series
Mercedes-Benz EQS

4x4 Double-cab category
Volkswagen Amarok

Adventure Sports-utility vehicle category
Lexus LX
Mahindra Scorpio N

Performance category
Toyota Corolla GR
BMW M2
Honda Civic Type R
Ford Ranger Raptor

The Motor Enthusiast’s Choice – the result of a public vote – returns for the 2024 COTY competition. 

The vehicle with the most likes wins this category, with three voters winning an off-road driving course sponsored by Old Mutual Insure and the SAGMJ.
