An access management system is  designed to enable fleet managers to control machine access and usage remotely while helping to increase operators’ safety and reducing unauthorised operations.

The advanced access management (AAM) system from Haulotte is integrated into the SHERPAL telematics solution and is designed to optimise safety, security, and fleet efficiency.

AAM provides control over machine access and usage, allowing fleet managers to secure assets while improving job site safety. Whether managing a single machine or an entire fleet, operators can only access equipment using a predefined code or radio frequency identification (RFID) card, that authorises operation only by trained personnel.

Features of the system include:

  • Single user or multiple user options provide controlled access for an individual operator or a group.
  • Customisable fleet options apply restrictions to specific machines or entire fleets.
  • Super-user privileges grant special access to specific operators or technicians to bypass restrictions when necessary.

Information can be sent to the machine computer to safely limit machine movement, ensuring the safety of the machine and operator.

Machine operation can be regulated in a number of ways:

  • Geofence: machines can only operate within a predefined area and if a machine moves out of the specified zone, lifting functions are restricted and speed is limited.
  • Time fence: machines are operable only during specific times, preventing unauthorised out-of-hours usage.
  • Faulty tracker protection: if a tracker is removed or damaged, usage restrictions are applied.
  • Remote restriction: managers can manually restrict machine usage to address evolving site conditions.

The AAM system never leaves the machine completely immobilised, even when restrictions are activated, and operators are still able to operate a machine for essential safety manoeuvres, such as lowering a basket or moving equipment at low speed. In addition, operators can access the system status on the machine's interface, aimed at ensuring a user-friendly experience that improves operator comfort.
Benefits to fleet managers and equipment operators include:

  • Prevention of theft and reduced associated costs.
  • Simplifying fleet management with intuitive access controls and usage logs.
  • Enhanced worksite safety by preventing unauthorised operation.
  • Minimising downtime and increasing machine uptime.
  • Unlocking new revenue streams by managing non-contractual operating hours effectively.

The AAM features can be configured using MyHaulotte software or on-demand on customers' Web tools. The system is part of SHERPAL’s protect subscription plan, which includes access control features and the pilot plan, which unlocks the full suite of AAM features, including access control and usage restriction settings.
