Advanced Group providing turnkey fire mitigation, suppression solutions
TRUSTED SOLUTION The world’s largest rope shovel ensures superior fire suppression through the ANSUL LVS NF-40 non-fluorinated liquid suppression agent installed by Advanced FST
Built on the back of a growing demand for a reliable, top-end service provider, safety and risk management specialist Advanced Group continues to evolve to include products and services that can tackle changing and bespoke fire protection, suppression and risk management needs.
Established 24 years ago, as the dependable reputation of fire prevention and protection expert Advanced Fire Suppression Technologies (Advanced FST) grew, so did the demand for other products and services in various applications. Consequently, the company expanded its offering to include physical firefighting and emergency services, and products linked to these services.
“Today, Advanced Group owns the entire value chain, from risk assessment, safety training, emergency services, passive firefighting systems, and even vehicle and kitchen fire suppression systems. On top of that, we offer automated lubrication systems, fuel management systems and hydraulic hose and fitting solutions,” says Advanced FST CEO Armand Barnard.
The latest addition to the group is Flameblock, a proudly South African research and development company that was established in 2022 to provide molecularly engineered fire protection.
Along with other Advanced Group companies, Flameblock will exhibit its innovations at Electra Mining Africa 2024 from September 2 to 6 at the Johannesburg Convention Centre in Gauteng. Developed by qualified chemists, Flameblock’s trademarked Lithium Black is an affordable, environment-friendly solution for controlling dangerous lithium fires.
Advanced Group will also have daily demonstrations to promote some of the purpose- designed firefighting and emergency vehicles manufactured by Industrial Fire & Hazard Control (IFHC), as well as a pressure-fed fire demonstration showcasing the ANSUL vehicle suppression system.
Barnard emphasises that it is extremely important that clients understand and have assurance that the system they have purchased was designed and tested for the intended application.
“If a system has not been tested to suppress high-pressure fed fires, or been built to withstand the harsh mining environment, it will be ineffective and endanger mining operators and staff.
“All mining vehicle fire suppression systems should have FM5970 or AS5062 approval,” he explains.
Along with the PyroUHP firefighting solution designed to extinguish underground fires using minimal water supplies, Electra Mining Africa attendees can also learn more about IFHC’s Sniper Trailer for light-duty vehicles (launched last year) and Double Assassin trailer designed for petrochemicals and high-pressure-fed fires. Visitors can find the Advanced Group offering at stand P7 in the Red Zone.
Highly Experienced and Capable
With a client base spanning the African continent, the group leverages the capabilities of each company to provide a comprehensive range of products and services for the mining, municipal, commercial, hospitality, airport, marine, petrochemicals, oil and gas and industrial sectors.
“Each company in the group offers specific expertise and is proficient in its offering but can also amalgamate the overall expertise within the group to provide clients with a turnkey solution that covers every possible risk scenario they might face. The solutions range from emergency fire, medical services, training and root cause analysis for incidents to protecting valuable assets, such as property and production vehicles.
In addition to Advanced FST, Flamebock and IFHC, the group also includes training and emergency services provider Rural Metro Emergency Management Services and international risk management services provider IRCA Global.
IRCA, founded by Carel Labuschagne, has trademarked and patented its unique root cause analysis method called RCAT, which is more thorough than numerous current methods used worldwide, highlights Barnard.
Meanwhile, Rural Metro offers a complete privatised fire and emergency service to private organisations, such as BMW, Nissan, Mondi and Transnet, or enables the establishment of municipal services through public–private participation.
“As there is a major shortfall of skills in South Africa, Rural Metro aims to upskill firefighters in all aspects of firefighting from basic skills to fire chief level,” adds Barnard.
Additionally, Advanced Group is the sole sub- Saharan African distributor of advanced fluid management systems supplier Raasm, based in Italy, and has also partnered with German hydraulic hose and fittings manufacturer Hansa Flex.
“We only sell highly engineered, tested and approved products with the highest industry standards and approvals,” concludes Barnard.
