The development of rail transport and infrastructure in Southern Africa is expected to increase in the upcoming years and to meet the needs of the region Alstom will present its Urban Turnkey Solutions in metro and tramway, fleet modernisation, as well as maintenance services. Other offerings include signalling for Freight and Mainline, and Regional and Main line integrated solutions.
“We believe the future success of Africa will be strengthened by innovative transportation solutions and Alstom is ready to be the preferred partner to answer to local mobility needs.” said Xavier Boisgontier, MD Alstom Southern Africa and CEO for Alstom Ubunye.
Alstom has proven itself to be a key player in the South African rail industry through its two joint ventures with local partners: 3600 rolling stock coaches being built for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) at Africa’s largest and recently completed, manufacturing plant – Gibela, a footprint that is strengthened through the adjacent, recently modernized 80000m2 Alstom Ubunye Factory.
Both JV’s are well established South African companies, with almost 100% local employees, and unique skills and technology transfer and a strong training programme for employees. Besides its long-term ambitions for the country, Alstom is also making an impact on local communities through several social investment programmes.
