Anton Paar’s Refractometer series: Abbemat 3X00. High-tech in a nutshell
The Abbemat 3X00 series provides all the essential features and intuitive handling. It smoothly integrates into laboratories in the chemicals, beverage, food, and fragrances industry, without taking up much space or time – or money. This out-of-the-box refractometer series is ideal for small laboratories that require straightforward measurements without any complex data processing.
“For quality monitoring the determination of its concentration is important and can easily be done with an Anton Paar refractometer within seconds.”
Key features:
Precise concentration measurement for quality control
The Abbemat 3X00 series measures the concentration of binary solutions. With over 200 available methods – from acetic acid to Zeiss – Abbemat refractometers provide the quality control that you require.
- Refractive index
- Chemicals (e.g. sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid)
- Pharmaceuticals (methods acc. to Ph. EU / US / JP)
- Food (e.g. Brix, sucrose, glucose, iodine value)
For all types of samples
Measures all consistencies within seconds – from liquids to pastes.
- Measures even turbid, coloured, or opaque samples
- Unaffected by environmental humidity, temperature, or vibrations
- Minimal cleaning required – just wipe down the measuring prism after each measurement
Easy to use, right out of the box
The Abbemat 3X00 refractometers come ready to measure immediately after unpacking.
- Intuitive user interface allows access to all measurement-relevant features on a 5.8” colour touchscreen
- Can be operated even while wearing gloves
Space-saving, maintenance-free instrument
Abbemat refractometers have no moving parts and are maintenance-free, so operators can spend time measuring instead of worrying about downtime.
Abbemat refractometers also fit nicely into any workspace – each model of the Abbemat 3X00 series takes up about the same space as a sheet of paper.

About Anton Paar’s origin:
The company's success story began on January 4, 1922, when Anton Paar founded his machine shop. At that time, no one would have imagined that this one-man operation would one day become a global corporation with more than 3,500 employees.
And yet from the start, Anton Paar pursued a bold, innovative approach.
He gave his daughters key roles: Hermine handled bookkeeping, Margareta operated in the workshop. As he gradually withdrew from the business, Margareta – at that time the first female master machinist in the Austrian state of Styria – took the lead. Her expertise in precision mechanics and manufacturing was outstanding.
In 1963, Margareta’s son-in-law Ulrich Santner became overall manager, developing the company’s focus on measuring and analysis technology. He reached out to universities, and contributed to the transfer of new technologies from research to industry, which led to rapid expansion. A milestone was the cooperation with the Technical University of Graz in Austria resulting in development of the Kratky small-angle X-ray camera, the first scientific analytical instrument to be produced by Anton Paar.
