The South Africa Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) has announced that the Wind Industry Internship Programme (WIIP) will be running for the second time next year, with applications now open.

The WIIP first launched in January, when 15 interns where placed and mentored by SAWEA member organisations for 12 months.

The WIIP internship offers hands-on experience to exceptional South African students who are committed to building a career in renewable wind energy.

The purpose of the WIIP is to provide young professionals who have recently completed a degree – or those undertaking graduate programmes – with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies and interests, and to expose them to work that is related to sustainable energy.

SAWEA is encouraging young aspiring professionals to apply for 2023 internships.

FOCUS AREAS

The wind industry has a diverse skills requirement, with the focus areas for the internship being on several broad skills areas.

These are:

Engineering: energy, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, civil etc.

natural sciences and mathematics (physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics and environmental sciences).

Administration and management (accounting, business administration, finance, procurement, human resource management)

Social sciences/humanities (economics, gender, international relations, communication, population studies, law)

Information technology (computer science, management information systems, multimedia web design, software engineering)

Those who are interesting in participating in the WIIP internship should complete the application form on the SAWEA website.

Interns can apply at https://sawea.org.za/wiip/wiip-form-1-intern/, while companies can apply at https://sawea.org.za/wiip/wiip-form-2-member/.

Alternatively interested parties can write to declan@sawea.co.za or kefuoe@sawea.co.za by submitting a curriculum vitae, qualifications and certified proof of identity.
