Aqua Horizon Technologies leads the fight against water contamination

Water contamination is a silent crisis threatening industries, communities and ecosystems across the globe. From industrial effluents polluting rivers to oil spills compromising groundwater, the scale of damage is staggering. Just one litre of oil can contaminate a million litres of water, disrupting ecosystems and endangering lives.

Wastewater treatment solutions provider Aqua Horizon Technologies (AHT) stands at the forefront of this battle. Since its inception in 1995, the Pretoria-based company has dedicated itself to developing solutions that protect water, respect the environment and ensure sustainable resource management for future generations.

Facing Water Challenges Head-On

Water treatment is not a one-size-fits-all endeavour. Each industry presents unique challenges, from hydrocarbon pollution in mining and oil operations to untreated wastewater in manufacturing, to overcapacity sewerage plants discharging untreated or partially treated sewage into rivers. AHT’s approach starts with understanding these challenges and ends with precise, effective solutions.

“We don’t just see problems; we see opportunities to fix them,” says AHT founder Jacques Steyn. “Every drop of contaminated water is a call to action. We owe it to our clients—and the planet—to deliver systems that work, last and create real change.”

This philosophy drives AHT’s work across 24 countries, serving industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, mining, agriculture and public utilities.

Advanced Solutions for a Critical Problem

At the core of AHT’s expertise are its advanced oil-water separation technologies: Hydraspin and Hydramix.

  • Hydraspin employs hydrocyclone technology to remove up to 95% of oil droplets as small as 10 microns, using centrifugal forces 3 000 times stronger than gravity.
  • Hydramix complements Hydraspin by targeting dissolved oils, achieving a recovery rate of 99.9% and reducing oil content to as little as 2 microns.

These systems meet the toughest discharge regulations while providing industries with efficient, low-maintenance solutions. Whether addressing pollution caused by surfactants in mining or oil contamination in refineries, AHT’s technologies deliver results without compromise.

Sustainability Through Innovation

Sustainability is not just part of AHT’s mission; it is embedded in every design. AHT’s systems are built to last, with minimal moving parts and low life-cycle costs. By integrating advanced telemetry, clients can monitor and measure their water usage in real time, ensuring compliance and accountability.

Steyn notes the urgency of adopting sustainable practices. “Companies that fail to invest in environmentally sound solutions today risk more than non-compliance—they risk their future.”

AHT’s long-term vision aligns with global sustainability goals, ensuring that investments in water treatment yield both environmental and economic returns.

The Looming Water Crisis

The challenges surrounding water scarcity and contamination are no longer theoretical. Climate change, industrial growth and

population expansion are intensifying the pressure on global water resources. Stormwater management, once an afterthought, has become a critical concern as catastrophic weather events increase.

AHT recognises these threats and has positioned itself to lead the charge in addressing them. The company is focusing on compact, high-efficiency systems to upgrade outdated treatment plants, handle stormwater, and mitigate overcapacity in existing infrastructure.

A Vision for Generations

With billions of kilolitres of water treated and a proven track record in industries with the most demanding water challenges, AHT is more than a service provider—it is a trusted partner in protecting one of the planet’s most vital resources.

“We don’t just work for today; we’re building systems for tomorrow,” says Steyn. “The water we save now is the future we secure for generations to come.”

AHT’s commitment to clean water, sustainable systems and innovative solutions ensures that it remains a leader in the fight against water contamination. The company does not just address the problem—it delivers the future of water treatment.

Ready to Make a Difference?

Aqua Horizon Technologies is here to assist you in solving water challenges with innovative, sustainable solutions. Send us a description and photos of your water treatment or contamination issue. This allows AHT to evaluate your needs and provide conceptual solutions along with pricing.

Let us start the process of protecting water, respecting the environment and ensuring a cleaner planet. Together, we can safeguard the future.
