Atlantic Tin completes Samine acquisition
Unlisted Australian mineral exploration and development company Atlantic Tin's Moroccan subsidiary, Titan Tin, has completed its acquisition of Société Anonyme d’Entreprises Minières (Samine) from Managem.
Samine owns the past-producing El Hammam mine, including its infrastructure and tenements, located adjacent to Atlantic Tin's joint venture Achmmach tin project.
“The acquisition of Samine is a major step forward in the development of the Achmmach tin project. The Samine processing plant already has a two-stage crushing plant, milling, flotation, thickening and filtering in place, as well as power, water and communications.
"This will result in a significant reduction in the capital cost to bring the Achmmach mine into production in comparison to building new infrastructure at Achmmach. The use of the existing infrastructure also results in reduced environmental and social impacts," says Atlantic Tin CEO Simon Milroy.
Ore mined underground at Achmmach will be transported by road to the El Hammam mine for treatment to produce tin concentrate.
Atlantic Tin is undertaking a definitive feasibility study, based on an 18-month construction schedule. Commercial tin production is expected to start in 2026 and ramp up to 900 000 t/y of ore.
Meanwhile, the company points out that, in addition to the existing processing plant, Samine holds a 111 km2 exploitation licence along strike from the Achmmach project, which is highly prospective for tin. Atlantic Tin intends to immediately start exploration at the exploitation licence area.
