Specialist bolts and nuts manufacturer Tel-Screw Products has bought a new computer numerical control (CNC) centre, which has replaced some of the work previously done on manual turret auto machines, says Tel-Screw GM Charmaine De Bruyn.

“Our machine design and devel- opment team implemented the equipment during the last six months, which has materially improved output rates,” she adds.

The new CNC centre has quadrupled the production output capabilities for small machined components. The company intends to buy another slightly larger unit within the next eight months. This will ensure more competitive pricing and that lead times are reduced to a minimum.

The aqcuisition of the CNC centre was prompted by the necessity to make the forming of its products less labour intensive.

“We also saw that we could streamline production and increase output extensively by building new machines. The decision was made in November, when the first prototype proved highly successful. “Therefore, we commissioned the manufacture of three more machines and are very pleased with the results,” she says.

Some of Tel-Screw’s product ranges have experienced sales growth, with strong demand for its cold-headed product range
