Bringing IoT functionality to dosing pumps

A new dosing and metering pump designed specifically to challenge traditional technological solutions to chemical dosing in municipal and industrial pumping applications, has recently been announced.

The Verderflex Ds500 from Verder Liquids incorporates technology designed to improve accuracy, extend the longevity of pumps, limit maintenance and service requirements and reduce chemical usage – all of which results in a reduced total cost of ownership.

A key advantage of the Ds500 is said to be its easy ‘click and go’ cartridge change. The peristaltic cartridge is the main wearing component and is designed to be changed within in one minute, which results in minimal maintenance time and the need for fewer spare part components.

It also features Remote Assistant Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring, which supports monitoring but does not allow control of the pump, helping to ensure accuracy and alerting the user to any problems. Changes are predicted, allowing maintenance to be scheduled, and performance is recorded and feedback provided, allowing downtime to be managed and minimised.

The Ds500 is designed with reduced pulsation which enables it to deliver up to approximately 1% accuracy with a smoothed flow. The pump is said to have an accurate flow performance from 0.1 ml/min up to 500 ml/min and pressures of up to 7 bar. This allows for greater accuracy and smoothed flow and also reduces wastage of chemicals and increases lifespan operation costs, supported with a 5 000:1 turndown.

The peristaltic pump can handle solids, abrasives, slurries, crystals and is not affected by ‘off gassing’, such as sodium hypochlorite found in the potable water industry. The unit does not require additional valves or complicated pipework, leading to lower installation costs and increased reliability.

Additional features of the Verderflex Ds500 include:

  • Click and go cartridge – tool-free maintenance
  • Smoothed flow for improved dosing
  • Less chemical usage (about 1% accuracy)
  • Touchscreen for easy control
  • Connections for remote control
  • Small footprint with secure mounting
  • IoT enabled: Remote Assistant monitoring

The pump is available from Verder Group in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
