South African business must organise in a fully inclusive manner to take advantage of the opportunities of South Africa's chairing of the intergovernmental platform Group of 20 (G20) for the betterment of the country, the region and the African continent, business organisation the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) says.

"Our big challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality will require South African business to pull together without leaving other formations behind, especially black business and the small, medium-sized and family-owned business sector, as broadly represented through the chamber movement," the organisation says.

Alongside the G20 is the big opportunity of organising the B20 to promote South Africa’s economic interests with the major economies of the world.

"We are concerned about the issues raised by [business organisation] the Black Business Council in its media statement and wish to urge the new leadership of [business organisation] Business Unity South Africa to make every attempt to reunite South African business and revisit the charter of its own mandate and formation.

"Sacci will take the opportunity to play a constructive role in an effort to contribute to this unity," the organisation adds.
