NYSE- and Aim-listed gold miner Caledonia Mining has appointed Stefan Buys and Lesley Goldwasser as independent nonexecutive directors, effective immediately.

The company also announced the retirement of Johan Holtzhauzen from the board, effective May. Holtzhauzen is also chairperson of the company’s audit committee, with Tariro Gadzikwa having been appointed to succeed him as the chairperson of this committee.

Meanwhile, Buys has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the global mining industry, including in the copper, gold, iron-ore, uranium, ferrochrome and platinum sectors.

Most recently he worked as CEO of the mining division at ArcelorMittal, which followed an MD position at Rio Tinto’s Pilbara mine, in Western Australia.

In turn, Goldwasser has extensive experience in global capital markets and structured finance. She is currently managing partner at a boutique investment bank called GreensLedge, as well as co-CEO and founder of GreensLedge Korea.

Her previous roles include MD at Credit Suisse, co-head of global debt and equity capital markets at Bear Stearns and lead independent director at Flagstar Bancorp.

Caledonia chairperson John Kelly says the addition of Buys and Goldwasser to the board offers sophisticated skills sets in strategic leadership and global capital and mining markets.

Caledonia’s primary asset is the Blanket gold mine, in Zimbabwe.
