Canadian airline orders another 25 jetliners from Embraer
Brazil-based major aerospace group Embraer has announced that Canadian carrier Porter Airlines has ordered a further 25 E195-E2 airliners, which will take its fleet of this type to 75. The airline also has options on another 25 of the aircraft. The new order is worth, using list prices, $2.1-billion.
“Porter Airlines is an exciting disrupter delivering an elevated passenger experience that’s shaking up the North American market,” highlighted Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Arjan Meijer. “Choosing the [E195-]E2 to deliver an upgraded service is a huge endorsement of the jet’s comfort and capabilities, and a further endorsement of the E2 – the world’s quietest and most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft.”
Porter was the first airline in North America to order the E195-E2, and has so far received 24 of the aircraft. The E195-E2 is the largest member of Embraer’s -E2 new-generation airliner family and is the largest airliner so far developed by the company. Although the type can accommodate up to 146 passengers, Porter has chosen to configure them with 132 seats, to increase passenger comfort.
With its operations centred in Toronto, the airline flies to a wide range of destinations across Canada and the US. It recently announced a number of new destinations, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco. Further, it plans to add destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico to its network.
“At Porter, we entered a new era when we began operating the E195-E2 earlier this year,” enthused airline president and CEO Michael Deluce. “The jet is exceeding our expectations, especially in terms of fuel burn, and delivering an incredible level of customer satisfaction to our passengers with a quiet, comfortable ride. These additional 25 orders enable us to continue expanding our reach throughout North America, with more exciting new destinations.”
The airline is currently deploying its fleet of E195-E2s in eastern Canada, focused on Toronto and Ottawa (the country’s capital). But new services to Montreal and Halifax have been introduced, using the new type.
