Logistics service provider Cargo Compass South Africa (SA) has moved into its new headquarters in Jet Park, Boksburg.

The 30 000 m² facility consolidates the company’s operations in Gauteng under one roof after it previously operated out of several different premises.

The cost of the development has not been divulged.

“We founded the company in 1999 with humble beginnings, a small office and no more than five staff,” says MD Sebastiano Iorio, who started the business with his sister Angela.

“Dedication, commitment and hard work have been our driving force over the years. This is a testament to how far we have come since those early days.”

“Our new headquarters position us for the next chapter of our business,” adds Iorio.

The new building has a roof clear spring height of 15.5 m, with the warehouse also boasting 16 dock levellers and five on-grade doors. This allows for the handling of a variety of vehicles, including super links.

The facility is equipped with eight lithium-ion forklifts and four reach trucks, also lithium-ion.

The facility also has a bonded storage warehouse and special operating store with 3 500 pallet positions, as well as spice store with self-contained extraction and odour neutralisation, as well as a facility for storing goods between 12 ˚C and 16 °C.

A two-lane workshop that allows Cargo Compass SA to service and maintain all its vehicles on-site has also been set up at the site.

The company has deployed a robotic cleaner at the new facility. This scrubbing machine operates 100% autonomously – from docking and charging itself, to restocking cleaning equipment and water, to the actual cleaning. 

It covers an average of 1 000 m²/hour, meaning the warehouse is fully cleaned every two days.

Security features include facial and licence plate recognition. 

A double perimeter fence fitted with infrared motion sensor cameras secures the property, while camera technology has also been deployed both inside and outside the buildings.
