NYSE-listed Caterpillar has marked 2025 as its 100-year anniversary.

The globally recognised original equipment manufacturer (OEM) technically turns 100 on April 15, which is when, in 1925, Holt Manufacturing and the CL Best Tractor merged to form what was then known as the Caterpillar Tractor Co.

Over a century, the company’s offering has evolved from its first track-type tractor designed to pull combine harvesters in northern California to modern autonomous construction and mining equipment and engines available today. Since the company’s inception, Caterpillar products and services have been used to complete thousands of of industrial, construction and infrastructure projects around the globe.

“Our success over the last 100 years is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, the continued trust of our customers and the support of our dealers and business partners. I’m confident Caterpillar will continue to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world over the next 100 years,” Caterpillar chairperson and CEO Jim Umpleby said on January 9.

Centenary celebrations took place in Sanford, north Carolina and Peoria, Illinois. At the company’s global headquarters in Irving, Texas, the families of company founders CL Best and Benjamin Holt gathered with company leaders and employees to celebrate.

On January 9, Caterpillar’s ‘Centennial World Tour’ began visiting Caterpillar facilities around the globe to provide an interactive and immersive experience for employees and visitors.

The company is also commemorating the centennial milestone with limited-edition grey painted machines, as opposed to the traditional yellow, available for purchase in 2025.
