The Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) has introduced three new categories in the 2024 Empowerment and Recognition of Women in Construction (Erwic) Awards.

Entries for the awards opened on May 30 and will close on June 28.

Now in its fifth year, the awards continue to set new standards in celebrating the achievements of women in the construction industry.

The three new categories are interior design and build project of the year, specialised project of the year and manufacturing entity of the year.

The interior design award celebrates the expertise and creativity of women in the interior construction sector, while the specialised project award acknowledges women-owned construction entities that have completed specialised works.

The manufacturing entity award aims to recognise manufacturing entities supplying the construction sector and their continued impact on women in the industry through employment strategies and empowerment programmes.

The other categories remain unchanged, including project delivery excellence of the year, rural project of the year, mentoring entity of the year, transformation entity of the year, innovative entity of the year, professional team of the year, youth-owned woman construction entity of the year, woman mentor of the year, woman with disability contractor of the year, exceptional woman in construction contributor of the year and the chairperson’s award.

“The Erwic awards play a crucial role in recognising and honouring the exceptional contributions of women in the construction industry.

"As we mark the fifth year of these prestigious awards, we are excited to see them evolve and grow, reflecting the expanding roles and contributions of women in construction,” says cidb CEO Bongani Dladla.

The awards ceremony will take place on August 22.
