Global industry organisation the Chartered Institute for Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Southern Africa has welcomed 169 new certified members who had completed a test and have a minimum of three year’s experience in the supply chain and procurement industry.

The status of MCIPS, which stands for Member of the CIPS, is bestowed on those who have completed a learning programme recognised by the global body, which is the gold standard of the procurement and supply sector with a presence in 180 countries.

This professional designation assures employers, clients and stakeholders of a professional’s up-to-date knowledge, ethical grounding and leadership capabilities in a complex and rapidly changing global supply environment, says CIPS Southern Africa regional MD Paul Vos.

“The continued growth of our membership in Southern Africa reflects an increasing appetite for professionalism and community in our field,” he adds.

As MCIPS professionals, the new members step into a global profession that is addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including building resilient supply chains and ensuring environmental, social and governance alignment, ethical leadership and digital transformation.

Further, MCIPS is highly valued in South Africa, with those holding the designation earning 78% more than their non-MCIPS peers.

Additionally, the CIPS Procurement and Supply Salary Guide 2025 found that more than half of employers, or 53%, in South Africa would prefer to recruit a candidate who either has MCIPS or is studying towards it.

The new members' achievement of their professional designation signals that they are ready to contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape, Vos says.
