A new partnership between industrial cooling specialists Industrial Water Cooling (IWC) and advanced engineering manufacturer Danfoss was forged last month at the Electra Mining Africa exhibition, held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

The two companies will work together to distribute Danfoss-made heat exchangers to IWC’s client base, with further expansion in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

“Importantly, we will be able to offer each client a bespoke solution for their heat exchanger requirements by merging our know-how and technologies,” says IWC heat exchanger and spares manager Deon Fawell.

The heat exchangers to be supplied by IWC will mostly be custom solutions, although plans are under way to ensure that IWC will also hold stock of a range of standard heat exchanger components.

This option, according to IWC, will not only decrease lead time for clients, but also offer them the option to improve operational efficiencies.

“With any process that generates heat, whether it be mechanical heat or a chemical heat, the prime choice would be to repurpose that heat,” says Danfoss technical sales engineer Brett Aarons.

Repurposed heat can be used to, for example, heat water for use in hot water applications across a client’s facility.

IWC will be granted access to the Danfoss design and installation programmes needed to accurately design and supply heat exchangers to clients.

“Should the design not be to a standard template, IWC will be able to send us the data sheets and Danfoss will manufacture to those specifications,” he adds.
