To improve pump reliability and increase performance limits, Grundfos, the world’s leading manufacturer of energy efficient water pumps, launched its new and extended generation of booster pumps, the CR range, during Electra Mining Africa 2018, held at the Nasrec Expo Centre, in Johannesburg, from September 10 to 14.

The new CR 95, CR 125 and CR 155 pumps, replaces the existing CR 90, CR 120 and CR 150 pumps, with new hydraulic designs that improve the impeller and guide vanes to the inlet, discharge port, sleeve and diffuser.

The CR range aims to increase efficiency and boost working pressure while doubling maximum flow to 320 m3/h. The range comes with three new large flow sizes of up to 40 bar pump pressure and significant energy efficiency upgrades.

Grundfos sub-Saharan Africa lead business development manager Niren Rohanlal indicates that the new 40 bar standard working pressure is applicable to filtration, reverse osmosis and boiler feed. He adds that the CR range will allow for high-flow application, such as large waterworks, which he says has until now been served by other pump designs.

Developed in Denmark, the CR pumps range has been designed with available flow and pressure variants, as well as a thrust handling device, which makes it unique, boasting simulation-driven development of superior hydraulics and other innovations like profiling the leading edges of vanes and introducing a flow-guiding system to eliminate eddies and turbulence, states Grundfos sub- Saharan Africa regional head Henning Sandager. The pump also offers simplified maintenance and flexible options, from flow sizes; horizontal or vertical mount; materials to pressure ratings; and connections and motor sizes.

Sandager states that the CR pumps range is exportable to all African countries, but in South Africa, Grundfos assembles and tests each pump according to factory regulations.
