Nasdaq-listed Critical Metals Corporation has started construction on a multi-use storage and pilot plant facility in Qaqortoq, Greenland, which is a key enabling infrastructure project for the Tanbreez rare earths project, also in Greenland.

The construction is being undertaken by a design and build turnkey contractor 60˚ North Greenland and covers all engineering, permitting, logistics, construction and commissioning activity.

Critical Metals expects the pilot plant section to be ready for use on or before May. It will comprise a structure divided into three functional sections for the support of pilot plant operations, core handling, storage and administration.

The company has also bought a property in Qaqortoq that will serve as a local office to ensure on-the-ground project execution near the mine site.

CEO Tony Sage says the formal approval and initiation of construction in Greenland is a major step forward for the company and the Tanbreez project. “This turnkey contract provides us with a clear, structured pathway to deliver critical pilot plant infrastructure in a challenging Arctic environment.

“Establishing a permanent office in Qaqortoq further demonstrates our commitment to operating locally, responsibly and efficiently as we advance Tanbreez toward development.”

The company considers the pilot and storage facility as a cornerstone asset that underpins the technical work programme for Tanbreez, as well as other long-term strategic objectives.
