Global miner De Beers Group reports that Matome Tsholetsa Malema, CEO of the Minerals Development Company Botswana and De Beers board member, has passed away.

Malema was appointed to the De Beers board in 2023, bringing deep operational expertise which drew on the considerable experience he gained from various operational roles at De Beers subsidiary Debswana, including as GM.

He was also passionate about sustainability and, as a member of the De Beers sustainability committee, provided valuable guidance across a range of sustainability matters and projects, the group highlights.

“Malema will be remembered for his leadership and the depth of experience he brought to everything he did. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues,” De Beers says.
