ECSA recognises CCSA as a voluntary association
Industry organisation Cement and Concrete South Africa (CCSA) has been recognised as a voluntary association by statutory body the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Category B recognition, in terms of Section 25 of the Engineering Professions Act, has substantial benefits for CCSA members, says CCSA CEO Bryan Perrie.
“CCSA members registered with ECSA can now claim one continuing professional development point for their membership and receive a discount on their ECSA fees,” he points out.
ECSA’s voluntary association status confirms CCSA’s rightful place as a professional member-based body in the South African built environment landscape, he adds.
CCSA was established in March 2021, through the consolidation of The Concrete Institute, the Concrete Society of Southern Africa, and the Association of Cementitious Material Producers.
Perrie urged all CCSA members with suitable qualifications, or who are candidates involved in training for qualifications, to register with ECSA to be eligible to use the abbreviations “Pr Eng”, “Pr Tech Eng”, “Pr Cert Eng”, “Pr Techni Eng”, or “Candidate Eng” after their names.
“Individuals can register as professionals, including professional engineers, technologists, technicians and certificated engineers, or candidates, including engineers, technologists, technicians or certificated engineers. A person may not practice in any of the categories in the professional section unless she or he is registered in that category,” he says.
