Engen Motor Show gets Mauritian industry revving under one roof

Engen Petroleum will once again be the Brand sponsor of the Mauritian Motor Show this year, after the Oil Company of Choice in sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean Islands revived the symposium as a new industry arrival in 2011. More than 50,000 visitors are expected at the three-day exhibition, running from 11 to 13 October at the Swami Vivekananda Convention Centre in Pailles.
The best and latest
Engen and a host of organisations associated with and catering to the motoring industry will vie for attention at the show. Supercars and superbikes will share the floor with financial institutions, spare parts specialists and automotive equipment dealers, showcasing the very best in products and services.
“Show visitors will be able to witness first-hand the latest trends in the automotive market and benefit from promotional prices on a wide variety of products,” says Christian Li, marketing manager for Engen Mauritius. “For vehicle buyers, it is an excellent platform to compare brands and features under one roof, while the casual visitor can catch up on the hottest motoring trends and buy the latest branded merchandise on promotion.”
Innovative newcomer
Engen, which has 23 operations in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands, entered Mauritius in February 2011, having taken over the business interests of Chevron Mauritius.
Operating 32 service stations in the country, Engen plans to open many more to pursue its innovative retail, convenience and payment offerings to a wider spread of motorists on the island, while growing its commercial business.
The company offers gasoline, Dynamic Diesel and lubricants to retail customers. In early 2012, Engen launched its first Quickshop on the island. To date it has opened six of the iconic convenience stores that have made Engen service stations a favourite stopover for motorists on the island.
Later on in 2012 the company opened the first of the popular Corner Bakery franchises, following it up with a second one this year. “We feel it is significant for the local market,” says Li. “We are ushering in an era of one-stop convenience in Mauritius.”
Engen’s commercial catalogue includes gasoline, Dynamic Diesel, marine fuel and fuel oil, as well as bitumen, chemicals and solvents. In 2012 Engen launched its 1-Card fleet payment solution in the local market at the now highly rated Motor Show.
Big show, big entrance
“Before Engen came to Mauritius, the last Motor Show was in 2006,” says Li. “Engen is delighted to have the opportunity to headline an important and exciting event after such a short time on the island, and to bring innovation and choice to this market.
“The 2013 Motor Show will give Engen an opportunity to increase the awareness of our brand and other offerings. For Engen it is not just about cars and motorcycles, but an opportunity to live up to our brand promise of ‘With us you are Number One’. It is an occasion to speak directly to our valued customers.”
Softer side
The show will also offer Engen the opportunity to showcase a softer side, by tying in with the 2013 motto Drive Safe, Ride Safe and Be Safe.
“As a responsible company, Engen has promoted road safety from day one,” says Li. “We are associated with local authorities and NGOs like PRAT to raise awareness. It is an ongoing concern and we have to do something to address it.”
