ASX-listed First Au (FAU) has appointed Hong Kong-based Hit N Drill to conduct a 3 000 m diamond drilling programme at its Nimba gold project, in Liberia.

The first of two drill rigs have already been mobilised to site.

Ownership of one of the drill rigs will be transferred to FAU at the end of the programme, which chairperson Daniel Raihani says will provide the company a long-term exploration advantage in West Africa.

The drilling will investigate structural controls beneath historical gold intersections, newly mapped oxide and sulphide zones and strike and dip extensions of artisanal gold workings.

The Nimba exploration licence spans 831 km2 and is located 25 km south-west of the Ity gold mine, in Côte d’Ivoire, suggesting a shared geological setting. Other producing deposits between 140 km and 160 km away include the Pasofino and New Liberty gold mines.

The exploration marks the first-ever diamond drilling campaign launched by an ASX-listed company in this highly prospective area of Liberia. The exploration also marks FAU’s strategic entry into the West African Birimian Greenstone Belt, which is one of the world’s most prolific gold provinces.
