As mining operations across Africa become more complex, remote and cost-conscious, the role of strong aftermarket and service support is increasingly critical to sustaining performance and reliability. These themes were explored when minerals processing supplier FLS sales and service head for Africa Bernard Kaninda was interviewed by Mining Weekly during the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Tuesday, February 10.

Kaninda discussed how FLS is strengthening its aftermarket and service capabilities to better support mining customers across the continent, particularly as operational footprints expand into more challenging environments. He highlighted the importance of lifecycle support – from commissioning through to long-term maintenance – in helping African mines extract greater value, reliability and availability from FLS equipment.

The conversation also focused on how FLS is leveraging digital tools, remote monitoring and data-driven insights to enhance service responsiveness and reduce unplanned downtime. Kaninda explained how these technologies enable faster diagnostics, proactive maintenance and improved decision-making for mine operators.

Finally, Kaninda outlined how FLS is tailoring its aftermarket solutions to help mines improve efficiency and manage operating costs, while continuing to invest in skills development, local partnerships and regional service infrastructure to ensure fast, reliable support wherever customers operate across Africa.
