Ford South Africa has been losing 720 Rangers in production a day owing to the pylon collapse in Tshwane.

Six pylons collapsed on April 10, cutting off power to large swathes of Pretoria.

As a result of the incident, all three shifts at Ford’s Silverton plant are currently suspended, says the local arm of the US vehicle manufacturer.

“The company has an employee base of approximately 5 500 employees, and approximately 60 000 jobs across Ford’s local supplier network, all of whom are affected by this outage.”

Ford says it is working with the City of Tshwane and Eskom to resolve the issue.

However, there is no indication yet of when power will be fully restored to Ford’s facilities.

Ford South Africa produces the Ranger bakkie for the local market, as well as more than 100 export markets.
