Huizhou Phase 3 ethylene and polycarbonate projects.

Location

Project Owner/s
China national oil company CNOOC and bulk petrochemicals supplier Shell Petrochemicals Company Limited (CSPC).

Project Description
The Huizhou Phase 3 ethylene project involves the construction of a third ethylene cracker with a planned capacity of 1.6-million tonnes a year of ethylene – a key building block to make plastics, and associated downstream derivatives.

The polycarbonate project will build a 260 000 t/y polycarbonate unit, a 240 000 t/y bisphenol A unit, and a 220 000 t/y carbonate diphenyl ester unit, as well as supporting research and development facilities.

Upon its startup, the project is expected to produce more than 320 000 t/y of high-performance specialty chemicals, including polycarbonate and carbonate solvents.

Upon completion of the two new projects, CSPC’s total ethylene capacity will reach 3.8-million tons a year, supplying the market with more than ten-million tons of high-quality, diversified petrochemical products.
