Itac recommends maintaining duties on clear float glass unframed glass mirrors from Indonesia
The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) has recommended maintaining the anti-dumping duties on clear float glass and unframed glass mirrors originating in or imported from the Republic of Indonesia.
Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Ebrahim Patel has accepted Itac’s recommendations.
The recommendations were made following a sunset review of the anti-dumping duties on these two products by Itac.
On June 15, 2022, Itac notified interested parties that, unless a substantiated request is made indicating that the expiry of the anti-dumping duties on imports of clear float glass from Indonesia would likely lead to the continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury, the antidumping duties on the subject product originating in or imported from Indonesia would expire on the five-year expiry date of the duties.
PFG Building Glass submitted an application to Itac on behalf of the South African Customs Union (Sacu).
Known manufacturers or exporters of the clear float glass in Indonesia were sent foreign manufacturers or exporters questionnaires to complete. Importers of the subject product were also sent questionnaires to complete.
No properly documented responses were received from any of the manufacturers, exporters or importers, Itac said.
As there were no imports of the subject product from the Republic of Indonesia during the period of investigation, the commission decided not to recommend an increase in the anti-dumping duty, but that the current anti-dumping duties on clear float glass originating in or imported from Indonesia be maintained.
Similarly, on June 25, 2020, Itac notified interested parties that unless a substantiated request is made indicating that the expiry of the anti-dumping duty on imports of unframed glass mirrors originating in or imported from Indonesia would likely lead to the continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury, the anti-dumping duty on the subject product originating in or imported from the Republic of Indonesia would expire on the five-year expiry date of the duty.
PFG Building Glass had submitted an application to the Commission on behalf of Sacu.
Upon initiation of the investigation, the known manufacturers or exporters of the subject product in Indonesia were sent questionnaires to complete. Importers of the subject product were also sent questionnaires to complete.
Comments were received from one importer and two exporters. Further comments were also received from the Indonesia Glass Association and the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, which were taken into consideration by Itac.
As there were no imports of the subject product from the Republic of Indonesia during the period of investigation, the commission decided not to recommend an increase in the anti-dumping duty, but that the current anti-dumping duty on unframed glass mirrors originating in or imported from Indonesia be maintained.
Both recommendations were accepted by the Minister and notices to give effect to these decisions have been published in the Government Gazette.
