Name of the Project
Kasawari Phase 2 – carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project.

Location
Off the shore of the state of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Project Owner/s
Petronas Carigali.

Project Description
The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from flaring by 3.3-million tons a year, making it one of the largest offshore CCS projects in the world.

Kasawari includes the construction and installation of a fixed offshore platform featuring a 14 000 t topside and 15 000 t eight-legged jacket.

The new platform will be linked to the Kasawari Phase 1 central processing platform by
a bridge.

The compressed CO2 will be reinjected into the depleted reservoir at the M1 field through a 138-km-long, 16” subsea pipeline.

An estimated 71-million to 76-million tonnes of CO2 will be reinjected into the M1 field through the pipeline.

The CO2 removal will be conducted leveraging a membrane separation technology with the help of two trains of low-pressure booster compressors. An additional two trains will be used for reinjecting the separated CO2 into a dedicated storage site.

The trains will be equipped with PGT25 and PGT25+ gas turbines, along with dry low-emission technology to increase fuel efficiency and minimise nitrogen oxide emissions. Further, the compressors will be cased to reduce footprints, compared with other installations.
